HG1129 Serapi Poshti 2-3

Antique Serapi Poshti

HG1129 Serapi Poshti. For the seasoned collector who has been patient, the wait is over. This Serapi stands alone in a world of exceptional pieces. Every great natural dye you can imagine combine in perfect harmony to create, what should be considered to be, essentially just a boiled down version of it’s room and rug sized parents. However, these Serapi “offspring” were made in such low numbers that with how they were typically used, few survived and even fewer in what can be described as ‘MINT’ condition. The story told, is dealers who were normal and frequent buyers of Serapi’s would purchase these small gems to give to very good clients as a gift and token of appreciation for their business. Classic book binding design, ivory spandrells and a complementary, slim, indigo ground main border. Oxidation to browns; [ please note: the image with the inventory tag and lead stamp that was removed prior to cleaning but can be re attached if desired]; 2-3″ x 4-3″       Circa 1880 / $2,800
