CC0127 Farahan Poshti

Antique Persian Poshti

ES1951 Farahan Poshti. Considered by many to be the closet parallel to the tribal dowry tradition done in an urban setting. Always woven in pairs, these would be given as a gifts to the bride and groom in wealthy Persian families. Like the best tribal pieces, the finest materials are used and the pairs would be commissioned. This example has long been separated from it’s other half and has the architecture of an early Serapi carpet. Treasured by collectors for obvious reasons but mostly the non commercial aspect of not being made to be sold. 336 knots per square inch. 1-6″ x 2-10″. Circa 1880.
